Welcome to Center Intermediate School's Computer Lab, where we use several computer programs, and web sites in order to learn and expand on what we already know.



We have a good time in Computer Lab, and are learning at the same time. I want to encourage you to talk with your child about the different programs we use and to ask them to take you to Study Island. Study Island is free to your child; the school provides it in the evenings, and during the summer to encourage our Students to keep their skills fresh. At Study Island they can work at home and improve their skills for the TAKS. Each child has had the opportunity to visit Study Island, but if they forget how to log in: first initial, last name, @center and their password. (ex. darcher@center )They should know their password. The site is: www.studyisland.com.


Another fun site we go to is Brain Pop. Brain Pop is not a free site during the summer, but it has a few free movies you can watch. We provide it at school, but not after school or during the summer. The site is: www.brainpop.com.

 


 

 

Mavis Beacon is a typing program, used to teach your child to type. Each child is schelduled for the Computer Lab weekly and use Mavis Beacon.

 

 

 

Study Island

Study Island is a TAKS program used to help with Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science.

Heart Beeps is a program with a variety of learning benefits. Math - Reading - Writing - Science. This program is helpful in preparing for TAKS.

The star test tells the teacher what reading/math level your student is on. This helps them select books for the Accelerated Reader program and where to begin in the Accelerated Math Program.

Accelerated Math- works at their own pace with the Accelerated math program, giving them the chance to 'catch' up if they missed certain math steps.

The Accelerated Reader - your child reads books on their level and gets points for each book finished per year or semester. There are prize's given at the end of the year for Accelerated Reader points.

Thinking Reader is a reading program with 6 different stories; the student can listen to the story, read the story, and use a microphone to learn to pronounce the words properly.

 
Carman SanDeigo World and USA - Both are Social Studies. The student travels the World and USA learning about places and cultures.
